“Official” start of production is this Friday at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit—which happens to be the only vehicle assembly plant in Detroit, period, so props to Chrysler for keeping the Motor in the City.

The Grand Cherokee is said to have both on- and off-road capability (as you can see, it will go through giant puddles). There are three 4 x 4 systems, new Quadra-Lift Air Suspension and Selec-Terrain system, and a 7,400-lb. towing capability. It is equipped with a new Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 that delivers up to 23 mpg. The outside is brought in via the panoramic dual-pane sunroof.

The2011 Laredo 4x2 has a starting MSPR of $30,995, or $495 less than the model it replaces, and the Laredo 4x4 is $465 lower than its predecessor, with a starting MSRP of $32,995.

We’ll be getting into one next month, so more as it develops.
