The technology that enables adaptive headlamps to adjust their beams according to conditions is moving into the passenger cabin, notes Steve Lietaert, president of Hella Corporate Center USA.

One example is Hella’s variable matrix LED reading lamp. The system can be adjusted with a touchpad by its user for beam size, position and intensity to match the mood or task being performed.

Lietaert notes that such flexibility will be increasingly important as autonomous driving systems enable passengers to use the interior as anything from an office to a living room.
