Well, that’s not entirely accurate.
Well, that’s not entirely accurate. More like “a word from two of our sibling publications,” Production Machining and Modern Machine Shop, which are, with the Precision Machined Products Association, putting on the Precision Machining Technology Show (PMTS) this April 16-18 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Ohio.
Why, you might be wondering, do we bring this to your attention (besides the obvious fact that it is always good to do something to make your coworkers like you)?
We checked out the results of the 2013 Capital Spending Survey, which was conducted by the research arm of our parent, Gardner Business Media (yes, this is getting rather relational), trying to determine the level of interest among people in the auto industry in machinery like screw machines, which are, of course, used for precision machining. (Of course, there are a number of other types of machines used to produce these precision turned parts, as well.)
This is a machine that will be on display at PMTS, the Mazak Hyper Quadrex 150MSY, which has twin 20-hp, 5,000-rpm spindles and twin turrets. The turrets can operate independently or simultaneously on the same part.
Turns out that there will be an anticipated $5.1-million spent by people in auto on automatic screw machines and $1.1-million on CNC screw machines.
Clearly, a nontrivial bit of interest.
