Apple Sets Up EV Team in Berlin
Apple Inc. has assembled about 20 “progressive” thinkers in Berlin to help with its secret Project Titan electric car project, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung says.
The German newspaper speculates Apple may hire contract builder Magna Steyr in Austria to produce the vehicle, dubbed iCar. The report describes the program, whose existence Apple has not acknowledged, as an effort to introduce a electric city car by 2020.
Sources tell the Frankfurter Allgemeine that Apple sought young and innovative employees within the German auto industry who felt their careers were being stalled by unreceptive upper management. The team is working on everything from engineering to sales, according to the report.
Apple, which has no vehicle dealer network, plans to introduce its car through rental companies or car-sharing schemes, the newspaper says.
The little car that could still can. And this time as a car that not only gets great fuel economy, but which has ride and handling that makes it more than an econo-box (and its styling is anything but boxy).
A young(ish) guy that I’ve known for a number of years, a man who spent the better part of his career writing for auto buff books and who is a car racer on the side, mentioned to me that his wife has a used Lexus ES Hybrid.
