Apps for Bikes
While it may seem that when it comes to vehicular iPhone apps its all about autos, that’s not the case. BMW Motorrad USA—the motorcycle part of the business--has rolled out with an app that it developed with Allstate Roadside Services that is compatible with any registered BMW Motorrad model in the U.S., which means bikes built from 1981 to the present.
Cleverly, the app takes advantage of the smart phone’s GPS system so that when the rider calls in for roadside assistance (which is free for three years with every new BMW bike), it is evident where the rider is. And because the app permits the owners to put in specific information regarding the motorcycle (model, color, VIN, etc.), the call center person has pertinent information when the call is received.
And the rider can even associate a unique photo of the bike. Of course.
