Chevy Paces Indy—Again*
Admit it: You’ve seen one of those 20th Anniversary Pontiac Trans Ams rolling along decked out with the 1989 Indianapolis 500 array. Or maybe a Chevy Beretta from the race of the following year. And you sort of wonder. . .
Last year, Josh Duhamel, he of Transfomers fame, piloted a 2010 Camaro around the Brickyard. And in 2010, although the driver hasn’t been publicly named, whoever it is will be driving a. . .Camaro SS. The car has the stock 400 hp 6.2L V8 engine, an RS appearance package and leather interior with Inferno Orange interior accents. And it has its array of Indy raiment.
And 20 years from now you’ll see one of these orange cars rolling along. And you’ll sort of wonder. . . .
*2010 will be the 21st time a Chevy has been an Indianapolis 500 pace car. Among the drivers through the years were James Garner (but not in Rockford’s Trans Am), Gen. Chuck Yeager, Jay Leno, Anthony Edwards, Morgan Freeman, Gen. Colin Powell, and Lance Armstrong.
