How Did They Get There?
The jurors—50 automotive journalists who work for magazines, newspapers, websites and broadcast outlets (full disclosure: I am on the board of directors of NACTOY)—made their decisions predicated driving the vehicles and assessing them on an array of considerations, from technology to value to performance and more.

The number of cars that were semifinalists: 8
The number of trucks that were semifinalists: 4
The number of utilities—and if you have any doubt about the growing significance of utes to the industry, this number will absolutely dispel that—that were semifinalists: 15
And the Final Envelopes?
The winners of the 2021 NACTOY awards will be announced on January 11, 2021, in a digital event. (Whereas the practice had been since 1994 to present them at the venue previously known as “Cobo Hall” in Detroit—with real vehicles, industry representatives and journalists on site—the pandemic put a stop to that.)
Deloitte handles the ballots, so know that even those of us who are on the NACTOY board will be as surprised as everyone else.
We will be sure to let you know which vehicles win.
