Nissan Debuts Datsun Go Hatchback

Nissan Motor Co. has publicly unveiled the Go, its first model under the relaunched Datsun brand.

The five-door hatch will go on sale in India in early 2014 at a price of about $6,700.

The little five-seater will be powered by a 1.2-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers power to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. Nissan will reveal more details about the vehicle closer to its launch.

The Go measures 12.4 feet long, 5.4 feet wide and 4.9 feet tall. The car shares its platform with the Nissan Micra/March. The car, which is intended for first-time car buyers, has no frills. There is no conventional audio system, for example. But owners will be able to play music from a smartphone by plugging it into a docking station built into the dashboard’s center stack.

Nissan will build the Go at the plant is co-owns with Renault SA in Chennai, India. The company also plans to introduce the Go in Indonesia, Russia and South Africa before the end of 2015. Nissan says it might introduce the Go in Brazil too.
