The North American International Car of the Year (NACTOY) jury have come up with their list of semifinalists in the Car, Utility and Truck category, and if there is anything that can be discerned from the lists of the vehicles is that there is a breadth of high-quality offerings available for buyers.

Consider, in the Car category there is the B-class Kia Rio and the Porsche Panamera, two cars that are arguably at the antipodes of cardom.

The Utility list includes the sporty Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the family-oriented Chevrolet Traverse, the Honda Odyssey minivan, and the Kia Niro hybrid.

And even Truck has some great reach, going from the hard-driving Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 to the lux Lincoln Navigator.

Next, the jurors (of which I am one) will gather in Ypsilanti, Michigan on October 17-18 to evaluate these vehicles.

The finalists will be announced at Automobility LA (a.k.a., the LA Auto Show) in late November, and the winner will be announced in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show on January 14, 2018.

The presenting sponsor for the awards is Bridgestone Americas.
