Spring Hill & Beyond

Although the financial numbers reported by General Motors last week were rather anemic (first quarter net income of $0.1-billion, which is at least black not red), there was another number that the company reported which is certainly far more positive: Four-million.

Although the financial numbers reported by General Motors last week were rather anemic (first quarter net income of $0.1-billion, which is at least black not red), there was another number that the company reported which is certainly far more positive:

Four-million.

Last week, the four-millionth Ecotec engine was produced at the GM Powertrain Plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

The plant produces three versions of the engine: a 2.0-, 2.4- and 2.5-liter. All are four cylinder engines and feature direct injection.

The engines are used in vehicles including the 2014 Malibu and Impala. (The four-millionth is being for a Malibu Eco.)

What’s interesting to note about the Spring Hill operation is that it exports engines to Mexico for use in the Chevrolet Captiva Sport, Korea for the Chevy Orlando and Buick Alpheon, and Poland for the Opel Astra.
