The ability to connect cars to each other and the infrastructure is available today. But rules and standards governing how connectivity will work are far from done.

SAE International is deeply involved in developing standards for this new technology. But Jack Pokrzywa, director of Ground Vehicle Standards, notes that the next step is government rulemaking to establish which aspects of connectivity will be regulated.
