The Aluminum Association presents the first-ever virtual Aluminum Design and Lightweighting Solutions Workshop. To address the industry-wide need for an aluminum-specific training curriculum for design engineers, this workshop brings together technical experts from leading aluminum producers Arconic, Novelis, Rio Tinto, Hydro, and Constellium. Russ Long, chief engineer, ground transportation products, Arconic will lead the discussion about aluminum's inherent advantages for vehicle design in the first of a 5-webinar series.
- Aluminum's fundamental safety and sustainability advantages for vehicle design
- Aluminum's role in a multi-material vehicle composition
- Aluminum alloy and temper designations
- Why aluminum is the fastest-growing automotive material
Chief Engineer, Ground Transportation Products; Arconic
For over three decades, Russ Long, Professional Engineer, directs aluminum design for various vehicle programs within Arconic. Russ was pivotal in development of the first-generation Audi A8 aluminum spaceframe design and early Mercedes-Benz projects, including the CL coupe aluminum body sides and aluminum SL Roadster prototypes.
Senior Scientist, R&D Automotive; Novelis
Debdutta Roy has nearly a decade of industry expertise in driving new product development with a technical focus on metallurgy. At Novelis, Deb has worked from ideation to commercial launch to develop Novelis' high strength 6xxx alloy. Deb has a strong innovation record with five issued patents across the U.S. and Europe.
