General Motors Co. is giving the Chevrolet Camaro a midcycle update that includes an updated front-end and expanded availability of the track-focused 1LE performance package.

The makeover includes greater differentiation between trim levels. The V-8-powered Camaro SS, for example, sports front bumper “air curtains,” a hood heat extractor air vent and revamped grille with Chevy’s ventilated “flowtie” badging, which was introduced a few years ago on the Camaro ZL1 to enhance engine cooling.

All of the 2019 Camaros except the ZL1 get a reshaped hood and new LED headlights that flow into the grille. The SS headlights get their own LED pattern.

The revised rear includes sculpted taillights—highlighted by different colored lenses for different trim levels—and a tweaked bumper. The RS and SS trim lines with a dual-mode exhaust also get a unique diffuser.

The SS also adds an optional 10-speed automatic transmission, which previously only was available in the ZL1. Buyers will continue to have a choice between an 8-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual in other Camaros.

Launch control and “line lock” also now are available on SS models. The line lock feature allows owners to apply the front brakes to perform drag racing-type brake burnouts.

SS and ZL1 models also include video camera imaging in the rear-view mirror. The system, which also is available in some Cadillac models, eliminates the blind-spots created by the Camaro's large C-pillars.

The 1LE package, which had been limited to Camaros with V-6 and V-8 engines, now is available with the muscle car’s base 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The treatment includes an uprated suspension, Brembo brakes, 20-inch wheels and sport-tuned Track and Competition driving modes. Buyers also get Recaro bucket seats and a suede-lined flat-bottom steering wheel.
