C8 #1: First 2020 Stingray for Consumers Built
Although we don’t have any details, as there seems to be HUGE interest in all things C8, we’d like to report that this morning the first 2020 Corvette Stingray came off the line at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky.

Shipments to dealers are expected late this month or in early March. Which, given Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction yesterday, would perhaps be a good time, because who wants to drive a Stingray in the snow (for those of us in the snowbelt)? Of course, no one really wanted to wait for their Corvette, but. . . .
While we don’t have much to say about that first car, here are some things to know about the factory:
- Bowling Green Assembly began building Corvettes in 1981
- It is the only plant in the world where the ‘Vette is built
- The people at the plant have a highly appropriate mission statement: “To Build the Thoroughbred of Sportscars”
- Before becoming the home of the Corvette it was a Chrysler air conditioner plant. (Who knew?)
Although the term “continuous improvement” is generally associated with another company, Honda is certainly pursuing that approach, as is evidenced by the Accord, which is now in its ninth generation.
