Nikola to Build Electric Trucks
Nikola Motor Co. is developing all-electric variants of two of its three fuel cell-powered heavy-duty trucks.
The Salt Lake, Utah-based company will unveil the electric Two and Tre models in April. The original Nikola One will continue to be a fuel cell-only truck.
The two battery-powered trucks will be available in 500-, 750- and 1,000-kWh configurations. The EVs will weigh as much as 5,000 lbs more than the base fuel cell models. They also are more expensive to operate.
Nikola says the electric trucks will have a driving range of about 400 miles (300 miles when operating in cold weather). The fuel cell vehicles, which have a longer range, will be targeted for long-haul routes.
